Welcome!

Welcome to my e-Portfolio! My name is Madeline Griem and I am passionate about collaborative, civic-minded, and culturally conscientious museum collections care and exhibits.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in History with minors in Anthropology and Geography from Emporia State University. I graduated from Indiana University in 2023 with a Master of Art in Museum Studies. My education bolstered my knowledge and skills in numerous areas of museum work, but I am most passionate about collections care and management and exhibits. As an emerging museum professional, I strive to create inclusive, collaborative museum spaces that foster lifelong learning for all.

My Mission

My professional mission is to engage in civic-minded and collaborative collections care and management in order to promote the essential balance between accessibility and conservation. I strive to preserve, interpret, and use objects in culturally sensitive manners appropriate to source communities.

My Vision

I want to be recognized as a community-engaged collections worker engaged in decolonization practices, who embraces ethical collections care and management and collaborative interpretation. I want to someday be a well-known name in my local museum community as someone to go to when advice on ethical collections care is needed.

My Values

Decolonization/Inclusivity

While fully, 100% decolonized institutions will never be achieved in my lifetime, I am dedicated to the processes and ethics behind decolonizing museum collections, exhibits, spaces, and practices in order to make them more inclusive and representative of community ideals, values, and self-determination.
